DIY Hygienemaske ohne Nähen
The Polish government's directive demands covering the nose and mouth comes into force on Thursday, March 16, 2020. Because the warrant does not require the use of approved filters, we can use virtually any appropriately large piece of material for the mask design.
Various companies began to produce their own reusable masks, which seems to be right with current demand. We, however, encourage you to use already owned materials so that after the wave of the virus we are not flooded with wave of unnecessary waste.
When creating your own protective mask, we must remember that its properties will not be comparable with standarized filters. However, looking at the mass of sold masks sewn from ordinary cotton, or people moving in dust masks, we can assume that a properly made own product will provide us with a similar level of protection - the use of even such a half-measure limits the transmission of the virus by droplet to some extent.
For the presentation we used one of the two pieces of fabric closest to our company - scarf-and-knitwear issued on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of our company. Don't worry, however - the recipe for a face mask will also work with our classic hexagon bandana and any other similarly sized fabric.
Our headwrap is a propper material for several reasons: Made only of polyester, so that they are hygienic, slowly soak up moisture and dry very quickly after washing. In addition, we know that during shows, events and with orders you received a whole lot of them, so certainly in many of your homes there is a one. By the way, we would like to remind you that while stocks last, for orders over PLN 200 you can choose one of the wraps as a gift.
To start: you need the material and two elastic bands. The most convenient will be hair bands, or tied elastic cord loop, but we used yellow recipes for better visibility.
Fold the balaclava in half - this will be the optimal width to cover most faces. In addition, an additional layer of material in theory means better protection.
Put elastics on it in about 1/4 and 3/4 lengths. If you know that you have a very narrow or very wide face, at this stage you can adjust the size with the spacing of the elastics.
Remember, however, that a mask that makes breathing difficult will do more harm than good. Therefore, if with four layers of fabric it is difficult for you to breathe and the mask quickly gets wet, you can apply a similar procedure as we do here - grab the edge of the upper layer and put its fragment over the middle bend. It will also allow a better fit of the nose. If on the other hand you like the standard layout, you can simply skip this step.
Now you only need to fold the sides of the wrap inside and we get a homemade hygienic mask without sewing with the pattern of your favorite military store :)
Put the rubber bands on the ears, with the sides folded towards the face. If you made the version with a fold over the nose, you can stretch it to fit the shape of your face.
